Physicians Associate
A Physicians Assistant/Associate (ie PA – trained as a Physicians Associate achieving a Masters Degree after an appropriate Undergraduate Degree) with greater than 2 years experience in General Practice will consult with triaged patients who do not present with undifferentiated symptoms.
In the context of health and disease undifferentiated refers to a situation where a condition’s characteristics are not clearly defined or specific enough to be classified into a known disease category. Essentially, undiagnosed is about not knowing what the condition is, while undifferentiated is about not knowing how to classify the condition.
Therefore on booking patients for a PA the triage should describe symptoms/Ideas Concerns and Expectation that suggest a likely disease or condition.
From these patients, PAs can assess, diagnose and treat patients in the primary care environment within their scope of practice. Within a consultation the situation may change and the supervising clinician is available to support and help/offer approaches/diagnosis and, where necessary, continue the consultation
