CCG Request pharmacies must not order patients prescriptions in most cases

BLACKBURN WITH DARWEN CLINICAL COMMISIONING GROUP HAVE NOTIFIED ALL PHARMACIES THAT THEY MUST NOT BE ORDERING ANY MEDICATIONS FOR ANY PATIENTS UNLESS THEY ARE DISABLED, HOUSEBOUND OR AT GP REQUEST.
THIS IS DUE TO SAFETY, OVERPRESCRIBING AND WASTAGE ISSUES.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE PHARMACY ORDERING MEDICATIONS AND YOU DO NOT FALL INTO THE ABOVE CATEGORIES AS OF 18.12.2017 THE MEDICATION REQUEST WILL NOT BE ACTIONED.
YOU CAN ORDER YOUR MEDICATION ONLINE (PLEASE CONTACT RECEPTION TO ARRANGE ONLINE ACCESS), POST YOUR REQUEST, OR POST THROUGH THE DOOR WHEN THE SURGERY IS NOT OPEN.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Blackburn With Darwen restrict prescribing of treatments and medicines for short-term, minor conditions.

The CCG wants to encourage people to “self-care” — which means that people take more responsibility for their own health and wellbeing where they can. For instance pharmacies are a good source of advice and support and can release GP time to treat people with more serious conditions.
